When I say 5 things to carry, you would have thought shoes, T-shirt, track pant, water bottle, etc, well though these things are important, we all need 5 non-material things also to succeed.
1. Patience– when we join the gym, we see a lot of people having amazing Physiques. The first thing that comes in the mind is “how long will it take me to get that amazing body”.we all need to realize that patience is of utmost virtue. Like trees don’t grow in a day, so also the body takes time to gradually grow as well. Without patience, we will lose track and quit as quickly as we started. We all need to take one day at a time. You can hire a personal trainer or workout with a friend or mentor who pushed you to work harder.
2. Vision-A Vision is a Futuristic view of how you would like your body to look like. It defers from person to person, someone may want to have a huge body, some may prefer the leaner one and someone may want a fitter body, whatever it maybe it’s important to have some definition or goal of you so that we can work towards the same. Hard work without goal or vision will lose its tracks and we will drift away from our destination. We can start with Vision broken up into small milestones so that we can when achieving these small milestones we have a sense of progress and also boosts our confidence.
3. Perseverance– With the Patience and Vision in place, now comes the important part of putting in the effort and going the extra mile in achieving our objective. Mind You those who pass this phase is the one who is closer or more likely to succeed. It’s a constant grind and it’s important that we show up. There may be good days when whatever you doing is easy and there will be days where even the easiest of the things look tough. Our body gets used to what we feed it. If we feed it hard work, it will work hard for us and if we feel lethargic our body also responds in the same way. Take the example of Usain Bolt, He has won 9 Olympic Gold Medals and to do he has run on the tracks for around 2 minutes, But to run on the Olympic tracks for 2 minutes, he has put in hard work behind the scenes for 20 years. Whatever effort you put in will always yield you benefit.
4. Assessment- You must keep on assessing your progress, it helps in determining the course of action you need to take to attain your goal. Also along with that, it helps you gain confidence when you see progress with is comparable.
Hence it’s advised to click a picture of yourself before you start the workout and periodically keep clicking pictures and compare the earlier ones with the more recent ones. Always keep on monitoring your progress. Since you see yourself every day, you may not be able to see the subtle changes that place, whereas if you have a picture of yourself before and compare it with the present then you will be able to see the difference.
5.Nutrition and Sleep- This part is considered the foundation of the Body. No matter how much ever you exercise, if you don’t have the nutrition and sleep then progress will be affected. There has to be a proper balance of Protein, Carbohydrates, Fats & other nutrients.
Try to have 7-8 hours of quality sleep. During this time, the body repairs itself and makes it ready for the next day.
